Why work with me

I'm an Orthodox Jewish woman from Brooklyn who has been writing publicly about Orthodox Jewish life for years. I've published more than 200 articles on orthodox-jews.com explaining the community to a non-Jewish audience — everything from kosher law to Hasidic dress to interfaith dating to the everyday rhythm of an Orthodox week.

My voice is specifically calibrated for outsiders. I don't write for the frum community; I write for the world that wants to understand it. That calibration is what productions, companies, and journalists are usually looking for — someone who can translate authentically without either oversimplifying or losing the audience.

I'm also direct about what I don't know. There's significant variation within Orthodox Judaism (Modern Orthodox, Yeshivish, Hasidic, Sephardic — each with internal variation), and I don't pretend to represent all of it. For specific questions outside my community's experience, I'll tell you and refer you to someone better positioned.

Common questions about working together

How quickly can you turn around a project?
For script reviews and short consultations, typically 1–2 weeks. On-set availability depends on scheduling. I do not work on Shabbat (Friday sunset through Saturday night) or Jewish holidays, but I am fully available Sunday through Friday morning.
Can you work remotely or do you need to be on-site?
Both. Script reviews, research, and training materials can be done remotely. On-set cultural advising, in-person workshops, and speaking engagements require travel (covered in the rate). I am based in the New York metro area.
What if our project is about a community different from yours?
I will tell you upfront. If your project involves a Sephardic community, a specific Hasidic sect I am less familiar with, or a historical period outside my expertise, I will either bring in a co-consultant or refer you to someone better suited. I never guess — accuracy matters too much.
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes. Standard NDAs are part of every engagement, especially for film and television projects in development.
Is the initial call really $150?
Yes — 30 minutes to understand your project and determine if I can help. It is credited toward the project if we proceed, so if you book an engagement the discovery call is effectively free.
Ready to talk?
Send me a brief description of your project. I respond within one business day (Sunday–Friday). Inquiries received Friday afternoon or on Shabbat are answered Sunday morning.
